I stayed at an incredible game reserve called Lalibela on the East Cape of South Africa. Animals were allowed to roam freely throughout the reserve, and every day our ranger would drive us around in an open air jeep to spot the “Big Five” and more. At night we slept in tents high up in the treetops that you reached by walking along raised wooden walkways from the central lodge.
One night, I was alone in the lodge drinking a glass of wine long after dinner, when our ranger came and called me onto the balcony. He whispered, “An elephant is coming.” I couldn't see anything. I couldn't hear anything. Then suddenly a huge bull elephant appeared from the trees. 13 feet tall, he was BREATHTAKING!
My ranger and I stayed up until sunrise, just the two of us, watching as our bull knocked down the walkway to my parents' tent and happily chewed through the lodge landscaping. We were so close that at one point, the elephant sneezed on me. But I didn't mind. It was one of the best nights of my life. Absolutely unforgettable.
And all thanks to my ranger, who could have just gone to bed that night. Thank you. You're my #BookingHero @bookingcom
